Job Description:
$3,000 BONUS
$1,500 ON FIRST CHECK AND $1,500 AFTER 120-DAYS OF EMPLOYMENT
In this role, you will perform highly skilled duties to maintain and repair City property, including heavy duty machinery and vehicles.
Examples of Duties:
- Maintains and repairs City vehicles and diesel equipment including garbage trucks, sweepers, scows, dump trucks, vans, pick-up trucks, and various construction equipment.
- Disassembles engines or motors and performs general repairs.
- Installs and adjusts brakes, batteries, tires, wiring, and glass; repairs differentials, carburetors, distributors, fuel pumps, steering systems, starters, generators, universal joints, hydraulic systems, high pressure pumps, valves, etc.
- Diagnoses and repairs light, medium, and heavy duty vehicles (class 1-8), components and systems, including: fuel systems, cooling systems, electrical systems, exhaust systems, ignition systems, hydraulic systems, and air brakes systems.
- Performs minor fabrication and welding.
- Assists other technicians diagnoses and repairs.
- Picks up and delivers of vehicles and equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
- Associate's degree (AA/AS) or equivalent and 3 three years of related experience and/or training, including experience working on heavy duty machinery and vehicles; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with diagnostic equipment, software, scanner, digital volt ohm meter, and starting and charging system testers.
- Valid South Carolina Driver's License.
- Valid Commercial Driver’s Permit – Class B within 3 months of employment.
- Valid Commercial Driver's License – Class B within 1 year of employment.
- Ability to pass and maintain at least 2 ASE Medium-Heavy Truck Certification Tests (T2-T8) per year until recognized as an ASE Certified Master Medium-Heavy Truck Technician in the fourth year of employment.
- Full set of standard and specialty mechanic tools, including a full set of standard and metric sockets, both hand and impact; 1/4 in, 3/8 in, and 1/2 in drives, torque wrenches, diagnostic volt/amp meter, spanner wrenches, adjustment wrenches, full set of hammers, and diagnostic gauges.
- Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office.
